Linde is a leading global producer of air gases. Therefore, the air in the earth's atmosphere is our most important raw material. Energy is another major resource for our operations. Additional materials, for example the metals required in the production of components flow into our processes.8x8x
Closed product circuits
The closed product circuits used by Linde help boost material and resource efficiency, and reduce the amount of waste generated. This means, for example, that lime slurry, which is generated as a by-product in the production of acetylene, can be exploited in other industries without further treatment.
Renewable raw materials
Linde technologies help promote the use of renewable raw materials. For example, Linde is teaming up with algae specialists to develop methods to optimally supply algae with CO2. Modified algae use CO2 to produce ethanol – the basis for a climate-neutral fuel for vehicles and aviation. Linde has also devised a method of generating hydrogen from liquid biogenic raw materials, such as glycerine. Raw glycerine, along with other substances, is a by-product in the generation of biodiesel from vegetable oils, such as rapeseed.
The majority of our products are delivered to customers either in gas cylinders or in tanks. After use, gas bottles are recycled and refilled. Typically, each gas cylinder is reused by Linde four times on average per year, and has an expected service life of approximately 20 years. If products require packaging, Linde primarily uses mainly paper, cardboard or plastic.

We collaborate with our business partners to find ways to efficiently use resources. For materials such as aluminium or steel, our industrial gases can reduce emissions and the overall energy needs in comparison to conventional recycling methods.
